Mehndi designs are very popular in Asia and Middle
East. Every girl dreams of a dark and a beautiful mehndi design on her
special day. Bridal mehndi designs are especially in vouge. But have you
ever wondered how to keep that special mehndi design longer??
Here are secret techniques you can use to improve your mehndi designs. We will show you how to get a darker color, keep mehndi lasting for long and how to store your henna cones to last a long time.
Mehandi Design Tip #1:
Get a good quality cone. If the mehndi is pure, it will work! Beautiful mehndi designs should last longer!! Invest in a good quality cone. Hyderabadi mehndi is world famous for its dark color, smell and longer lasting mehndi color. If you can, grab those ‘green’ cones from Hyderabad. Do write to us if you want help with getting the cones.
Mehandi Design Tip #2:
After applying the mehndi design on your hands, let it dry. Make it dry enough so that when you touch it, it doesn’t stick to your hands and it doesn’t spread. Now in a bowl, make a mixture of sugar and lemon juice. With the same lemon dab the juice over the mehndi design. Once this juice is dried, it will almost glue the mehndi design to your skin – allowing your skin to absorb all the good color. You can reapply the juice 2-3 times overnight. Next morning, scrap off the mehndi!
Mehandi Design Tip #3:
Use baby oil to scrub off the mehndi instead of washing it with water or soap. Washing with water usually washes of all the coloring particles and hinders further coloring of the mehndi. Baby oil or any other oil is a good option. Just apply it on the dried mehndi, use a thick card to gently scrape the mehndi design from your hands.
Mehandi Design Tip #4:
The color of your mehndi gradually darkens over the next day. It is better not to use soap for the next 12hrs – if you must wash – apply oil over the design and quickly wash. Also, henna darkens as it is exposed to air.
Mehandi Design Tip #5:
Apply mustard oil after you apply mehandi. It is a great color stimulant.
Mehandi Design Tip #6:
Heat a pan and put few cloves on it. then warm your hands in the steam that comes off the pan.
Mehandi Design Tip #7:
When choosing a mehndi design, select a design which has both thick and thin lines. Thicker lines usually result in a darker shade and thinner lines act as a filler or give emphasis on the main design. Check out our other articles on mehndi design collection. We have tons of mehndi designs you can choose from.
Mehandi Design Tip #8:
The best color will be the day after mehandi has been scraped off. So apply your design by working backwards from your special day!
Mehandi Design Tip #9:
Wax and bleach your limbs before mehandi is applied, else mehandi will be waxed off!
Mehandi Design Tip #10:
Avoid staying close to the air conditioners as it fastens the mehandi drying time.
Mehandi Design Tip #11:
Refrigerate your cones after the first use. This will ensure that the mehndi cone will last even for second use!
Mehandi Design Tip #12:
Glitter and rhinestones are your friend. One the special day, use skin friendly glue to stick rhinestones and also use glitter to adorn your mehandi design. Tried turmeric paste?
